Description
After a strong 1985 season, Lotus designer Gérard Ducarouge developed the 98T as an evolution of the 97T. It retained the single-piece carbon fibre chassis and was powered by the official Renault EF15B engine, offering better performance than the Mecachrome-supplied units used by other teams. Ayrton Senna took two Grand Prix wins. With Elio de Angelis leaving for Brabham, Johnny Dumfries joined as the second driver. Lotus finished third in the constructors' championship.
